Birks Antique Late 1890’s Sterling Silver Oval Picture Frame – Canada

$245.00

Description

This very old sterling silver picture frame from Birks is likely dated from the 1880’s to 1900. Birks is one of Canada’s longest established jewelry store. It was founded in 1879 in Montreal by Henry Birks. Richard Hemsley founded the oldest store in 1870, also in Montreal. Therefore the two of them were in fairly close proximity, both in time and in location. Both are known for fine jewelry. Birks also made many other sterling silver items such as picture frames, porringer bowls, dresser sets, and various other decorative items. This frame measures 5.75″ high x 4″ wide. It is hallmarked Sterling and Birks on the back of the stand. The condition is fairly good. It has a small ding on the top of it, and has a brown velvet backing, which shows its age.
