Description
This amazing labour of love colourful antique bed cover is made with 1″ hexagonal cut outs of colourful cotton, all meticulously hand stitched. Each 1″ piece is six-sided. Each stylized flower is unique and made with the 1″ pieces 12 on the outside, 6 on the inside and 1 at the centre. There are 156 of these coloured shapes on an off-white cotton background, all of which are in the hexagonal shapes. The edges are scalloped. This means that there are around 5,624 1″ hexagons all hand stitched. Considering its age, it is in exceptionally good condition, and the colours remain vibrant. There are no tears or stains at all. It is clean. It measures 76″ x 74″. See photos for details as well as picture of the reverse side to see the hand stitching (last two photos). It must have taken ages to create this textile art with all the patterns and colours. Circa estimated 1920s. It came from a home in West Point Grey, Vancouver, but I do not know who it was made by. It could go on top a queen bed with a larger cotton base underneath, or a double bed. Because it is all cotton, it is not bulky or heavy.
