1920’s Large Vanity Set Featuring Amber Glass & Decorative Celluloid On Honey Amber Bakelite – Germany

$1,895.00

Description

This beautiful set is in excellent condition with the exception of the stand on the back of one of the frames. The velvet covered cardboard stand for the frame has been taped, and it stands up fine, so I have left it as is. The stand on the other frame is fine. The celluloid, decoration, and bakelite on both frames are in excellent condition. The frames measure 9.25″ high x 4.75″ across.

The large mirror is exceptional with the art nouveau dragonfly, green and amber rhinestones and marbled celluloid on carved amber bakelite. The mirror itself is bevelled and in excellent condition. The length of the mirror is 15.25″. The handle measures 8″ long. The top portion of the mirror measures 8″ x 4.5″.

The two brushes have fairly clean, but somewhat discoloured natural bristles. The brush without the handle looks like it was used, and the other brush does not appear to have been used much. Both have the the design and decor on the celluloid and bakelite in excellent condition. The brush with the handle measures 9.75″ long x 2.75″ wide. The smaller brush measures 5.75″ x 1.75″.

The set has three trinket jars, all of which are in excellent condition. The largest one is a heavy ornate amber glass jar, with three pedestal feet, and a decorative lid that matches the rest of the set. It measures 4.75″ high x 3.5″ across. The next trinket box is narrow and elongated, with a decorative arched celluloid and bakelite handle on the lid. The reason for the handle, is because there is an emery board on the underside of the lid. Rather ingenious. The jar itself is celluloid. It measures 6″ long x 1.25″ wide x 2.35″ high.

The smallest jar has a matching decorative lid. The jar itself on this one is bakelite. It measures 2″ x 1.75″ x 1″ high. It too, is in excellent condition.

There are five tools included in this set. The longest one is a corset hook for tightening corsets. It measures 7.75″ long x .75″ wide. The metal hook portion measures 3″ long, and the decorative handle measures 5″ long. The next tool with a flattened metal end measures 6.25″ long x .75″ at the widest part of the handle. The next tool with the curved metal end measures 6″ long x .75″ wide. The shortest tool measures 5″ long x .75″ at the widest part of the handle.

The scissors are marked Kiesler & Co. Germany. They measure 5.25″ long x 1.8″ across. The handle portion has the same decorative style. The scissors are functional and intact, but a little wobbly.

Fortunately this set has been well cared for with all of the decorative jewels and carving in excellent condition. It is a beautiful example of 1920’s functional and decorative art. I have not seen another set like it, especially one with large picture frames to match.
