Meme Dysthe 1970’s Silk Summer Dress – Montreal, Canada

$450.00

Description

Meme Dysthe was a Montreal based fashion designer of Scandinavian origin. Her career blossomed in the fifties when she began using imported fabrics from France in her dress designs. She sold to to high end boutiques and department stores in Montreal. Her dresses were in the $200-$300 range in the fifties. Underneath the label of this dress, there is a small very old price tag still attached with the original price of $985, a strike through, and $755 as the sale price. That was in the seventies!  Not that price assures quality, but this silk fabric is exquisite. Therefore, I believe the claims her fabric was  from Tissus A Leleu & Cie at 29 ave de l’Opera in Paris – the same fabric suppliers for the couture fashion houses of Paris. I have not been able to find out when she went out of business, likely sometime in the seventies.

The dress is 100% silk with an acetate slip underneath. It has a slight drop waist and ruffled collar and cuffs. The under slip has a plastic zipper at the back, and is trimmed with the same silk fabric as the dress. There is a row of covered buttons down the back with a single hook closure at the top. The slip measures bust 34″ Waist 30″ Hips 36″. The silk dress is looser and drapes over the tighter fitting slip. Sleeve length 19″. Length from centre back 40″. The condition is very good. There are a couple of light marks on the underside of the slip. Dry clean only. Made in Canada.
