Description

This is a large sterling silver pendant necklace of an Aztec Mayan sun depiction by master silversmith Miguel Melendez. The markings indicate it was created prior to 1979. It features crushed turquoise on the face with silver outlines for the eyes and facial features. The sun rays radiate outward to measures 2.25″. It has a large bail behind one of the sun rays. It is signed by the artist with his initials M, and marked Sterling Mexico. There is an open eagle with the number 3 inside. It has the original chain, which is also signed with the artist’s initials and Sterling. The entire piece is solid and hand made by one of Mexico’s master silversmiths. The chain measures 24″ and has a hook clasp. It is in very good condition.

Miguel Melendez worked under the most famous Taxco designers William Spratling, Los Castillos, and Margot de Taxco.
