Jane Shaffhausen was born in Paris and moved to New York when she was ten. Her father, Bravig Imbs was a well connected writer. Jane was immersed in the Parisian high fashion as a young girl, modelling frocks for Elsa Schiaparelli and Lucien Lelong. The childhood exposure to fashion had a lasting impression on her.  By the early eighties she had a booming business called Belle France. Her designs were a hit with celebrities Jane Fonda, Ann-Margaret, Liv Ullmann and several others. The following is the link to a 1982 article by Harriet Shapiro that I resourced to learn more about this designer.
